NBW COVID Policy
Last updated and in effect as of September 1st, 2022
During several large gaming events that were recently held including Origins, Pax East & WBC, there have been a number of outbreaks of COVID among those attendees as a result of relaxed COVID protocols. As a result of this experience and with much discussion amongst the team, we have decided that for this years NBW, we are going to implement the following:
All attendees must provide proof of vaccination upon arrival at registration in order to be able to enter the convention space.
- All attendees must be fully masked at all times while within the convention designated areas. This is regardless of whether you are walking around or seated.
Information on the Ontario vaccine certificate and downloading the QR code (the record of your vaccination status) can be found here. Also, if you’re an out of province resident, information can be found lower down on the same page on applying for your Ontario vaccine certificate and QR code in order to gain access to the convention.
American visitors will be expected to provide their state’s equivalent of the vaccination certificate showing at least two vaccine doses.
All worn masks must be large enough to completely cover the nose and mouth without gaping. A supply of extra masks will be available on site at the registration desk for those who need one.
The bottom line is that Art and Dave care about the health and well-being of this amazing group of people and do not want to have people get infected on their watch.
Anyone who thinks Art & Dave should be perfectly fine with risking other people’s health clearly don’t know Art or Dave very well at all.
Hopefully, this summarizes NBW’s Health and Safety position clearly for everyone who is considering attending.
We’ll continue to monitor the situation and if the infection rates improves before the event, we’ll adjust this policy accordingly.
If you are the owner of an NBW Pass, it is to be understood that you are accepting these terms and conditions as part of your NBW Pass.
Questions & Answers
Q: Why is NBW’s policy more restrictive than current health and safety policies from either the Local or Provincial Health authorities?
A: Like many within the community, we’re excited to see the return of in-person gaming events like NBW and we’ve been watching carefully how these large gatherings have played out both here in Canada and in the US. Based upon the current numbers of hospitalized people due to Covid, it remains very much a pandemic and there are still real risks to people attending large gatherings in terms of catching the virus. As such, we feel that it’s vital to do everything we can to help protect the NBW family from those risks by putting these stricter measures in place, especially for those attendees who are immune-compromised or are in regular close contact with potentially vulnerable members of their family.
Q. This policy seems unfair as both the vaccine certificate and mask wearing restrictions are currently lifted in Ontario. Shouldn’t I be able to decide what’s right for me?
A. We appreciate that some who wish to attend the convention may find these policies too restrictive for them for whatever reason. While we respect the right of individuals to have the right to choose to get vaccinated and/or wear a mask, a private event such as NBW has the right to require proof of vaccination and insist on mask wearing at their discretion.
